Meet The Brand: Eichholtz

In this article, we dive into Eichholtz’s history, success and values, and how the brand allows you to create stunning interiors of your dreams.

Eichholtz: The Beginning

The Eichholtz brand is the creation of Dutch designer Theo Eichholtz who creates high-end luxury designer furniture for the glamourous celebrity style homes and 5 star luxury hotels around the world. While touring Asia in the 1990s, Eichholtz became enthralled by the stunning beauty of Chinese colonial furniture. He admired its elegance and dedication to aesthetic forms.

Soon after, he began importing it to Europe and marketing it as luxury furniture for high-end clients. As a wholesaler in furniture, lighting and accessories, he had significant success.

Eichholtz furniture, however, evolved considerably over the following years. The outfit began bringing design in-house and putting its own interpretations on alluring antiques. Eventually, it built a collection of its own, using the Chinese colonial style as its original inspiration. Most items in the brand’s collection are modern interpretations of classic designs.

As Eichholtz grew the wholesale side of the business, it provided the necessary capital to begin investing in consumer-facing stores. Within a few years, Eichholtz had set up outlets in core markets, such as Barcelona, Miami and St. Petersburg. For the first time, consumers could explore, touch and feel the brand’s eclectic designer furniture and accessories in person.

Today, the company boasts more than 150 skilled employees, a 4,000 square-metre showroom, and a portfolio of more than 10,000 prestigious hotels, restaurants, stores and private clients globally. Due to high levels of demand, it now operates a new warehouse in the US, allowing it to ship goods to consumers in the United States and Canada more rapidly, providing a similar level of service as it does to its European clients.

Beyond Furniture

Eichholtz expanded and cleverly integrated its business model over the past twenty years, adding sophistication at every level to meet customers’ needs. The brand is much more than a mere supplier of luxury furniture. It provides clients with an end-to-end service that takes them all the way from design to implementation, taking great care to ensure a seamless experience.

Eichholtz is keen to inspire customers and show them the types of delightful interiors they can create when they choose its wares. It offers insights into how customers might use its timeless pieces to create elegant interiors.

Its Madison Avenue inspiration, for instance, showcases the height of luxury New York living. The room features a combination of gentle mood lighting, Edmond sofas in Savona grey velvet and Roche cushions for added comfort. Accessories include stunning Puglia side tables with matte mindi wood tops and marble grey bases and a Beverly Hills bauhaus trolley.

It’s mid century modern interior offers equally impressive characteristics. The showpiece features an Eichholtz washed oak veneer cabinet with subtle contrast in the grains, a Remington dining table, paired with scribe dining chairs. Accessories include a sculpted table lamp and patterned, tan rug. The feel is retro yet subtle.

Independent Style

Unlike most other brands in the space, Eichholtz has resisted the temptation to form collaborations. It strictly retains its independence, preferring instead to use its substantial in-house talent to generate beautiful pieces that stand the test of time.

Designer Edwin van der Gun heads up Eichholtz’s creative team. He maintains the brand’s high rate of innovation by blending influences from multiple eras, styles and geographies. On the one hand, he and the team celebrate traditional northern European minimalism, while on the other, they are keen to bring in bauhaus and retro elements when needed.

The brand’s innovation is clear from the sheer range of aesthetics that it creates. Inspiration ranges from modern comfort to sparkling serenity and unsurpassed class. It’s this willingness to move with the requirements and tastes of clients that makes it so celebrated in the industry.

The result of this process is that the brand never runs out of experimental concepts. When hotels, restaurants, and private individuals go to van der Gun and the team, they always know that they are going to get something inspirational.

Today Eichholtz regularly presents its new collections to architects, designers, stylists and retailers at fairies. When available, it headlines at iSaloni WorldWide in Russia, High Point Market in the US, Salone del Mobile in Italy and Maison & Objet in France.
